Oracle Database Performance Analysis with Panorama
Presented by Peter Ramm, Otto Group Solution Provider (OSP) GmbH
This presentation demonstrates the top-down approach in the performance analysis of Oracle DB using the freely available tool Panorama. Current and past aspects of application performance and optimal use of system resources are evaluated. This is based on various basic system views readable via pure SQL as well as logs of the DB that are subject to the licensing of the Diagnostics and Tuning pack.
For the applicability of a retrospective analysis also for Standard Edition or without Diagnostics Pack, it is shown how Panorama itself generates and transparently displays recordings internally and license-free, analogous to AWR and ASH.
The aim of using the tool is to
- Support DB operation in top-down analysis of operational state or particular issues
- Enable the preparation of complex interrelationships of the Oracle DB without in-depth insider knowledge
- Enable developers to get most out of an Oracle DB and make them able to use DB performance as a key success factor for their applications
- Lower the inhibition threshold for software developers in particular to get to the bottom of the causes of problems
The live demonstration is based on the example of the ERP system of a large German mail order company. Further details on Panorama, including a download link, can be found at https://rammpeter.github.io/panorama.html.
